Webinar Recap

Biotechnologies Applied in Textile Processing

On 13 January 2026, an international audience of textile SMEs, research organisations, universities, and designers participated in the online webinar “Biotechnologies Applied in Textile Processing”, dedicated to the role of biotechnology in advancing sustainability and circularity in the textile industry.

The webinar addressed how biotechnological solutions, particularly enzyme-based and bio-based processes, are transforming textile wet processing by reducing reliance on hazardous chemicals, lowering energy consumption, and increasing process efficiency. Speakers highlighted how these technologies enable shorter processing chains while maintaining high product quality and flexibility.

Key topics included:

  • The contribution of biotechnology to the circular economy in textiles
  • Opportunities for renewable, recyclable, and biodegradable materials
  • Textile waste reuse and future-oriented processing models
  • Alignment with EU policy frameworks, including the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)

The technical session was delivered by Jan Marek, Technical & Sales Director at INOTEX Ltd., a recognised expert in textile chemistry and biotechnology, and was moderated by Lena-Marie Jensen (Science Park Borås). The webinar concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing participants to connect scientific innovation with real industrial challenges.

The event provided practical, actionable insights for organisations preparing to implement bio-based tools and strengthen their position in a more sustainable and competitive European textile ecosystem.
