🌍✨ TEX-BREIN LEARNING EXPEDITION: November 12–13, 2025, BORÅS (SE)

CONCLUSIONS

As part of the TEX-BREIN project, a Learning Expedition was held in Borås, Sweden, a leading centre for textile innovation and sustainability. The visit was hosted by Science Park Borås and the University of Borås, which together form a strong innovation environment connecting research, industry and public actors.

Two SME representatives from each of the six participating regions were invited to join the mission and the purpose was to explore best practices in circular economy, manufacturing, and policy development, and to strengthen interregional collaboration across Europe’s textile ecosystems.

Throughout the two-day programme, participants gained insight into how Västra Götaland works with innovation, sustainability and industry transition. The mission included:

  • Introduction to the innovation environment in Borås and the work carried out at DoTank Center
  • Company visit to Job Group, focusing on industrial clean-tech and high-tech textiles
  • Participation in Borås Textile Days, including keynotes, networking and panel discussions
  • Visit to the Smart Textiles Showroom (exclusive for the TEX-BREIN delegation)
  • Guided tours of the University of Borås’ world-class textile labs, covering advanced structures, design, fibres, recycling and testing
  • Workshop on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and its impact across European regions
  • Company visit to FOV Fabrics, exploring circular processes and highly advanced textile functionality
  • Sessions on data-driven profitability and Digital Product Passports
  • Networking opportunities with researchers, regional actors and Swedish SMEs

The Learning Expedition strengthened interregional ties and broadened participants’ understanding of how innovation ecosystems can support the circular transition. The insights gained will contribute to ongoing collaboration within TEX-BREIN through future meetings, workshops and shared activities across Europe.
